Conservation and Restoration
 
Age of Bronze offers a full spectrum of services in Restoration and Conservation, treating contemporary and historical bronze monuments, sculptures, and architectural features in the private and public sectors for cities, galleries, museums and prominent artists from home and abroad. These services are devised for both indoor and outdoor applications of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, which include the sculpting, moulding, casting and installation of missing or damaged components, structural repairs, general cleaning, maintenance and patina integration.
 
Many of the outdoor bronzes have had decades of exposure to the environment without the intervention of treatment, inheriting the common green and black corrosion products, and any traces of an original patina have all but disappeared. In rare circumstances, there are minute traces of the original patina usually found on an underside or unexposed crevice area that may reveal an indication of patina colour. Research and development regarding the original patina and initial intent of the artist, are essential steps to restoring the artwork as close as possible to its initial colour.
 
On any given project, if a treatment is planned, its advisable to hire a qualified conservator to assess the artwork, and prepare a condition report and treatment proposal. Conservators work together to share their knowledge and expertise to carry out the necessary treatment options with the intention of arresting degradation with minimal intervention, there by helping to preserve and maintain the value of the artwork.
 
Patina
 
Age of Bronze also specializes in the research and development of patinas, formulated for historical and contemporary restoration of sculptures and architectural features, as well as general patina services for sculptors, art foundries, galleries and art institutions with over 25 years of experience. Patina workshops and master classes are also available upon request.
 
Maintenance
 
Maintenance is the key to preservation. Once the artwork has been treated, a maintenance program is reccomended with regularly scheduled visits annually or biannually, depending on location and environmental conditions, particularly, artwork that is placed outdoors or near water. Each visit is documented, and any changes to the artwork are noted and then treated to help prevent and reduce surface corrosion and deal with any apparent problems that may be detrimental to the future of the artwork.
